Alkohol and cancer
30% of all alcohol-attributable cancer cases in Sweden are caused by moderate or low levels of alcohol consumption.
Healthy living and lifestyles are a strong trend in Sweden, but no other EU nationality knows less about or is less aware of the link between alcohol and cancer. And given that alcohol is the second most common contributory factor in terms of the global cancer burden, according to the World Health Organisation, this is something we are keen to change.
Alcohol causes cancer. Any alcohol consumption increases the risk of certain cancers, and higher levels of consumption further increase those risks. The more a person consumes, the more the risk of cancer increases. Alcohol is considered a Group I carcinogen (highest level) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization along with, among others, tobacco and soot.
